So at least I got that goal. I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong or if it was just a bad day, but I had a really hard time running. 9 extra minutes long which is terrible. We were almost close to our second goal of 1 hour and 30 minutes. I did 1:34 and Melanie did 1:32 so she won. I look forward to doing this again and I need to lose some more weight and get a lot stronger in my legs so this is easier next time. It was looking like every run was getting worse and worse. So I decided to stop into a running store and see what I could do. The lady had me try on some SuperFeet $45 (ahhhh) and run. It looked like I was still over pronating. So we got the right Superfeet insoles and the overpronating was over.

I also used KT Tape last night so a mixture of the two made the shins better. Then on my long run I stretched good and did a good warm up and they lasted until the last 10 minutes and then they were pretty tired. So I iced and heated and iced and stretch and today they fill ok but I am still afraid that I am going to get them.

I can't really back off because the race is in 4 weeks and I am still not ready. First we missed our swim because Mel is going to New Mexico for 3 weeks and will get the advantage of working out at 7000 feet elevation. I will get the advantage of working out and living by myself so me getting bored may give me more time to work out.

This week did just that besides no swimming this week. On my short run day I decided to have a 2 a day and did the allotted time of sprints twice.

My long bike ride went pretty well and I was able to speed up this week. But because of a lack of planning I had to do 6 or 7 laps around my neighborhood to get the last few minutes in.

Then came my long run for the week. I started out well and thought things were going to be good. I was going a little fast than normal and was happy with this until I crashed 60% into it, so I had to walk for a couple minutes catch my breathe and go again.

I couldn't live with that so this evening I decided to go run again. This time I got my right pacing and made it the whole allotted time before I crashed. I decide to do this because next week is a lighter rest week, so we will see how it goes.

The 4th weekend

Well, the Paris fun run came and went and I didn't make it. First, I thought I would just bike it then I decided I was going to walk and run it. So I set my alarm and then spent half the night awake with asthma from my mothers dogs. So by morning I was worn out and new it wouldn't of been a good day doing more running than I could and having to struggle breathing the whole time.

That night I ran and walked 2 miles in Montpelier and struggled breathing but was still able to hold a 12 minute mile while walking half of it (I know that's slow but good for me) . Then Sunday night Mel and I got our first outdoor bike ride. It was a lot more work than both of us expected but we were able to get 12 miles in. We got some work to build up our speed and our strength but we are going to get it done.

10 weeks and counting for the Bear Lake Brawl and we are still looking for people to do it with us so let us know if you would like to learn more.

Back to naming things.

Well, I decided my bike needed a name.

Part 1. Many years back I saw this piece of crap looking, home made speed boat that on the back of it said Half Fast.

Part 2. After saying the name a few times and a little faster and more as one word it reminded me of what my mother use to say how I did things all the time when I was growing up.

So I figured "Half Fast" was an appropriate name for my bike because I am not fast and I am the word all as one. I started crashing at the end but I made it through. Last week was only a mile and 6/10 in the allotted time and I started crashing at the end of that one also. So I am ok with crashing at the end as long as I can keep up with the times of my program. I guess I just need to work harder on the short days, or I might have to add a few two a days.

I think Sunday's run was helped with the passing of my Grandfather because I was able to reminisce on my time with him and it kept my mind off how stupid running is.

The work out.

Well, I went to www.beginnertriathlete.com to find us a program to work out to. The best I could find is a 16 week program, but we only have 12 weeks to prepare so I threw away the first month and we got started.

It has been going good so far and we work out each division of a triathlon twice a week which works well for my self diagnosed ADD. The work out entails a short day and a long day each of the swim, bike and run. On the short days you work on hills and sprints to build up your strength, speed and stamina. Then on the long days it is a normal workout and you just measure your time and each week it gets longer and longer and hopefully I can keep up.

What's in a name?

I like naming things and my neighbor that encourage me to start doing triathlons is called Tri Rich until he crashed his bike in an Ironman and broke some ribs a couple weeks ago, he now goes by Crash Landers.

So I thought and came up with Tryan which of course is a combination of triathlon and my name. My first thought was never in a million years.

But I got to thinking about it and after the weight loss, the first time I ran, I was able to run a mile. Knowing myself I knew I wouldn't stay to a work out program unless it had the following steps.

1. It has to change around. I diagnosed myself with ADD, I can't stand to do anything for very long so I felt like I needed to mix things up.

2. It had to push me a little but also be excited for the next work out.

3. I needed to have a goal at the end besides weight loss, because health and strength were just as much needed as losing some poundage.

So I just started training in swimming and jogging only following the first two of my rules. I was proud of myself and my accomplishments in such a short time that I started bragging about running or swimming a mile on Facebook. (I know I'm great, sorry no autographs). Instead of people making fun of me I started getting pats on the back and I had two people ask if I was training for a triathlon. So I looked into what triathlons were and saw that there were Ironman's which I would probably die in before I got a quarter of the way through and then I saw Olympics. Which were a little more reasonable and maybe I could be ready for one in 3-5 years. Then I heard about sprints and although I think they are called sprints because all the 165lb triathloners sprint them, I set a goal just to finish one of those this year. So I got online to find a schedule and I came across one on my 36th birthday in Bear Lake (where I grew up). So I figured this was a sign and I started telling people about it and became a recruiter to find people to do it with me. So right now I have recruited 6 first time triers and maybe a couple people that have done them before.

So will I come in last place... probably, will it make me cry if I finish it...probably... am I going to do it... prob...YES, I have to. This is why I am recruiting people "to hold me to it", along with bragging on Facebook about my mile runs and now this blog to get as many people to come do it with us, and hold me to it.

So I added step 4 to my rules.

4. Find people to hold me to it, thus getting rid of my lack of will power.

I also found out that they even have a special class of triathloners for people like myself. They have a class of over 200lbs for men and they call them Clydesdales after the big horses that pull the huge Budweiser carts. (I am sure I will feel like I am pulling one of those carts in my run)

Now I have to tell you about my picture in my head of me doing this triathlon. I hope you all have seen the movie Jumanji and if not you need to go see it to get my picture. But I picture myself like the rhino in the movie that is always the last one in the stampede and he is huffing and puffing and dragging along.

So my goal is to FINISH a sprint triathlon on September 12 at the Bear Lake Brawl.

Weight loss to the extreme!

Well, I knew I had to drop some poundage to start cross training so I started looking into programs. I am one that doesn't believe in the easy way out but I came across a few neighbors that were doing HCG and had some major weight loss quickly. So I decided to look into it. I researched the crap out of it because I didn't want to put strange things in my body let alone a part of woman's urine.

So after all the research I decided to do it. Now the neighbor paid over $350 for a 23 day supply through the doctor and I learned that you could order this online, so I found a reputable company and ordered it for myself. Not knowing how much to order, I ordered wrong and ended up with 20 supplies of 23 day HCG. So I became the neighborhood drug dealer for the stuff to a huge savings from going to the doctor.

The results: I lost 32 pounds in 23 days. Wow, did I feel better and starting to look better. Yes I have a ways to go and thus part of the reason I started leaning towards doing a tri.

My wife also did the HCG with me and now weighs less than when I married her. Her support made it a lot easier and thus why I put a little pressure on her to do the tri with me. More on that later...

Also I have had slightly high blood pressure for the past 8 years and it was back to normal. Very happy with the results.

Starting out

Well, first off let me explain that I didn't start out training this year for a triathlon.

Every year for the past few years I look in the mirror and think how big of a fat ass I am getting and I start exercising. This never last long because of my weight my body starts breaking down with chin splints or joint pain, and a lot of lack of will power.

This year I was feeling more and more like a fat ass and had a lot of proof when it came to pictures, then I got on the scale and when it went over 270 I was pissed, so again I decided it was time to get in shape. So after going out and running and not even being able to make it a quarter mile my wife, a neighbor, and I started a swimming program.

So we started off strong and this was a lot easier on the body. Granted the first time I had to take a break about every 50 meters and later in the workout every 25. Also I am a OK swimmer but I don't know how to breathe properly so that makes it harder.
